My final drawing of Hekate, the Greek goddess of magic and witchcraft, moon and night, and ghosts and necromancy. She is a big inspiration for my art, and I’ve tried drawing her so many times but was never satisfied with anything I did until now. (And Hekate has been randomly popping up in my life in various places the last few months, so I thought It Was Time.) If you’re struggling this Mother’s Day week

You’re not alone. There are many ways that this week can be painful and difficult. 

  • Not everyone feels close to their mom.
  • Some moms were/are unhealthy, abusive, manipulative, and cruel.
  • People lose their moms at different times in their life. It can be hard no matter when that happens. 
  • Not all mothers were present and loving. 
  • LGBTQIA may have been rejected by their family and their mother disowned them. 
  • There are many who never knew their mom. 
  • Some may have grown up in the foster system without their mom. 

There are many possible reasons you may be feeling hurt and alone around this time of year. Or maybe Mother’s day brings up a lot of trauma from manipulative and abusive parents. There are some people who cannot talk to their mother, or who have their reasons for choosing not to. 

Please understand that holidays like Mother’s Day can bring up a lot of shame, guilt, and trauma around what our relationships with our mothers *should* look like and there is a lot of shame passed around. This may be one of the hardest days of the year for some people. Remember to be kind and compassionate.

I talked to a young man with white hair on a boat cabin in the middle of a stormy sea. He forgot everything about himself exept for the fact that his name rhymed with ‘Time’ so he started calling himself Time.

I offered him an orange in exchange for a meaningful chat. He took the slice and told me “Nothing’s set in stone, but they’re set in a dirt road. If you roll your wagon in the same path too much it’ll soon be the only path you can take without struggling.”

Correspondences of: Carrier & Essential Oils

Carrier Oils: Carrier oils, known also as base oils, are used to dilute essential oils before they are applied topically. They serve as the base for oil blends. 

Essential Oils: Essential oils are concentrated liquids that contain the volatile (”the tendency of a substance to vaporize") aromatic compounds of plants. They are obtained via distillation and the oil alone should never be applied to the skin directly as some a reactive to heat, and light, and some will give you chemical burns. You are likely to have a reaction to essential oils.

Carrier Oils:

  1. ALMOND OIL, SWEET (Prunus Dulcis)
    Ruled by Mercury and the Element of Air. Sweet Almond Oil makes a great carrier oil for blends that deal with prosperity, money and wisdom.
  2. APRICOT KERNEL OIL (Prunus Armeniaca)
    Ruled by Venus and the Element of Water. This makes a great carrier oil for blends that deal with love or emotions.
  3. AVOCADO OIL (Persea Americana)
    Ruled by Venus and the Element of Water. This makes a great carrier oil for blends that deal with love, lust or beauty.

Somehow, the witches of Discworld has become the cornerstone for the philosophy by which I live my life.

I need not fear when I walk in the woods, because I am scarier than anything that can be found within them.

Help others where they need it (even if they aren’t grateful), and let them help you when you do (even if you don’t want it).

There is strength in numbers. Cling tight to the ones you love.

Don’t be afraid of your own emotions – your anger, your stubbornness, your selfishness. Use them. Make them into weapons to protect and help others.

If you see that something is wrong in the world, fix it.

Learn from tradition, and let it guide you, but don’t let it bar you from making your own path.

Don’t bog yourself down with trinkets and tools. The best things often come with working with what you already have.

Defend what is important to you. Stand firm in your beliefs, but don’t force them on others.

Carry yourself with pride. You are a witch.
