terrasunshine:

something i wish that was asserted more in general pagan spaces: it’s okay to choose your gods.

what i mean by this is, a lot of people will boast about how ~their gods came knocking, not the other way around~ and how finding The Sign that a god is expecting your worship is tantamount to proper pagan religious practice. and while these things can absolutely be a part of any practice, the flip side is rarely, if ever, discussed at all.

it’s okay to look at a religion and decide you want to be that religion (barring closed religions, of course). it’s okay to say, “these are the gods i want to worship” and then just go about your business worshiping them. while many of us will sort of backtrack and look at things that happened in our lives and say, “yep, i was oblivious, but that was ____”, the decision to worship is ultimately ours.

the Theoi didn’t grab me by the hair and demand my worship. Apollo didn’t kick me in a dream and tell me to worship him. being a hellenic polytheist, and everything that entails, was and IS a conscious choice. it is my choice to abide by hellenic ethics, to indulge in hellenic traditions, and to worship the Theoi.

it’s okay to choose your gods. just because you’re not getting some Ultimate All-Encompassing Sign from the gods you want to worship, it doesn’t mean your worship is in vain or means nothing. it’s okay to choose to be religious. it’s not shameful to choose to be religious.

“A Light In The Dark” Enchantment

mothmaam:

An enchantment to ignite hope and inspire strength in a time of darkness and need inspired by a dream I had.

  • A large bowl
  • Mortar and pestle
  • A bay leaf
  • Aloe
  • Fennel
  • Allspice
  • Lemon or lemon juice
  • Rosewater
  • Full moon water

What To Do

  • Before you even set up for the ritual make sure your aloe and fennel are diced into small pieces. Careful when dicing so you don’t cut yourself, you don’t need blood for this spell.
  • Place your candles in a square around you and place your bowl in the center.
  • Light your candles.
  • Add your bay leaf to your mortar first and then your diced aloe and fennel.
  • Proceed to muddle the bay, fennel, and aloe together until they have become a finely mixed together.
  • Sprinkle the allspice into the bottom of the bowl.
  • Add the mix from the mortar into the bowl, press and smooth the mix with your pestle till it’s evened out.
  • Now add half your moon water.
  • Then add your jewelry, wearable item into the bowl.
  • Pour half of the rosewater in now.
  • Take your candles two at a time, let their wax drip in and say/think “In this dark I seek my light, get me through this darkest night.” until all of the four candles’ waxes have dripped into the bowl.
  • Put your candles back where you had them.
  • Take your finger now and circle the water clockwise and while doing it say/think “Lend me strength, lend me hope, lend me power in this darkest hour.” until you stop stirring.
  • Blow out your candles, dispose of the bowl’s contents, dry off your jewelry/item and wear it.

How to Read Candle Flames

advicewitch:

Hey witches! This is a little post on candle scrying, and how to interpret the flames, especially before casting a spell. Begin by lighting your candle and getting into a meditative state. Once you are calm and your mind is quiet, look at the flame. Use this guide to interpret the flame.

A Strong Flame: This indicates that power and energy
are going into your desire for manifestation. When a figure candle is
used, a strong flame generally means that the person represented is
winning, angry, or using authority over another. When two figure candles
are present, the higher and stronger flame represents authority over
the other.

A Weak Flame: This can show that you are facing heavy
opposition and must redo the magic several times to overcome the power
you are facing. The weak flame can also indicate, on a figure candle,
that the subject is losing the battle. The weak flame that goes out
means that you’ve missed your target altogether, start over.

A Jumping Flame: This is an attention getter. It can indicate raw emotions along with explosions of energy.

Rainbow Flame: If your flame is composed of various
colors this indicates that there are outside influences at work that may
be beyond the power of the questioner. Colors can also show that the
question may be best answered at a later date. The factors involved may
need a change to develop and evolve for a clearer view of what may
occur.

Direction of Flame Movement

  • North: On a waxing moon, something physical is manifesting.
  • East: Something mental is manifesting.
  • South: Your energy is strong, and is good for spell casting. In love matters, you can expect love that doesn’t last too long.
  • West: Emotional aspects. A good sign of success and love.

Direction of Smoke

  • Northern Movement: Something physical is manifesting. You will have to work for what you wish to achieve.
  • Eastern Movement: Something mental is manifesting. Think things through and have patience.
  • Southern Movement: Something intense and short lived is manifesting. Success comes rapidly and with intensity.
  • Western Movement: The manifestation of strong magic intervention. The
issue is too emotional. You are too involved. Step away for a time.
    Clear your thoughts.

If you have any spirits, they may converse through the candle’s sound:

Infrequent Noise(Soft): Pure thoughts, intimate conversation.

Frequent Noise(Mild): An authority figure giving orders or directions.

Frequent Chatter(Strong): Arguments, quarrels or loud disagreements.

blackbearmagic:

I’m not saying that the Atlantic won’t drown your ass. She absolutely will, if that is Her whim that day.

But at least She has the decency to downplay Her brutal might.

To invite us in with warm sand beaches, bright sunlight, gentle breezes–as if to say to us “I am a powerful mistress, but not a cruel one.” To let us splash and dive in Her foam-capped waves and only occasionally dragging us under or smashing us against the shore.

Sure, She could kill you. Sure, She could kill you and make it so they never find your body. She could, She could, oh goodness me, She could

but She probably won’t

not in this moment, at least

and probably not in the next one

or the one after that

and probably not even in any of the moments that you are in Her waters.

Maybe She’ll never hurt you or even so much as scare you

but She always could

So enjoy your day at the beach. Play in Her waves. Bask on Her sand. The Atlantic is powerful. The Atlantic is loving.

And She almost definitely won’t fuck you up.

Meditation for the Wild-Minded Witch

inkcraft:

do you have ADHD? are you easily distracted? do you daydream constantly abt everything and anything? when you hear the words “you might fall asleep” in a post abt meditation, do you sigh and roll your eyes?

if you answered “yes” to any of the above, then this is the post for you!!

as someone who has type one ADHD and a crazy imaginative mind, I haven’t seen a single Intro To Meditation post that pertains to me. they’re always abt tips for visualization, or tips for not falling asleep within 5 minutes. I have insomnia you guys, I ain’t gonna be asleep in any less than 2 hours smh

without further rambling, here’s some tips and tricks for people who just can’t fucking meditate

1) listen to some goddamn music. preferably stuff you’ve listened to many times before, songs you have basically memorized so you don’t get distracted by how unique this new sound is, or how cool that voice was right there. listen to your favorites!! listen to songs in foreign languages, so you aren’t focused on the words but more the feeling they give. blast that shit through your most comfortable earbuds, tune everything else out

2) don’t sit outside. trust me. too many extra sensory bits and shit that you just don’t need rn. miss me with that wind and bugs and prickly grass.

3) tired of the “visualize a door” method? visualize yourself dancing! find one good dance song that you’ll only use when trying to meditate, and choreograph your own little routine! imagine urself dancing outside on a chilly autumn day- the air smells crisp and the leaves crack and almost hurt beneath your feet and every once in a while your arms hit a twig or branch. imagine it’s spring and there’s cold dew on the soft new grass and the sun is making your bare arms tingly, a warm breeze tugs at your hair and clothes. get creative! the hardest part is imagining yourself *in* your body, looking out, instead of watching urself dance like it’s a movie.

4) sit in the car!! oh my god!! do this!! the passenger seat of the car opens a world of possibilities, and you probably won’t even have to close your eyes because damn, look at you, you’re already off daydreaming abt god knows what and completely ignoring everything around you!! if cars are good for anything, it’s daydreaming. now all you gotta do is figure out how to switch your daydreaming off and turn meditating on.

5) school age witch? meditate in the morning on the bus. if you trust the other kids riding with you enough, do it on the way home too (warning: may suddenly find urself interrupted by flying paper balls or gross laughing. this is why we meditate in the mornings when everyone’s half asleep still)

6) it’s okay if a stray thought drifts in every once in a while, so don’t get upset over it.

7) your leg bouncing? scalp itch? eye twitching? keep bouncing it! scratch your head! rub your eyes!! trying to ignore these things will take more effort than it will to just take care of them. make sure youre comfortable

8) extending on that point, if you find your overall position uncomfortable, just move dude. it’s okay, just cause you aren’t laying with ur arms at ur sides and legs perfectly straight doesn’t mean you won’t get some meaningful meditation in

I was hoping to get 10 points but I’m suddenly lacking motivation and getting bored with typing this. guess that’s the proof for you that I have ADHD? I hope these help! feel free to add on your own tips for meditation! and like always, don’t beat urself up if nothing seems to be helping. I’ve been trying for three years and I still struggle very much to meditate, and be confident that what I’m seeing isn’t just my Wild Wild imagination, and is instead the astral or whatever else I’m looking for. take your time, and good luck! ✨🌊🥀
