Plant magic: Sweetgum.

  • Dried seedpods, commonly refered to as Witches’ Balls, Witches’ Burrs, and Sticker Balls, are protective and can be “loaded” by sprinkling herbs into the holes and then sealing with wax for warding. The dried seedpods can also be placed on windowsills or in corners of the home to act as protective elements to set or reinforce wards. The pods can also be used in witches bottles to protect the home and prevent theft. Witches’ burrs can also be used for commanding and compelling. A photo of the target or a name paper can be wrapped around the spikes of the seedpod, intended to cause them anguish until they complete commands. Burrs can also be added to hex jars.
  • Leaves. Sweetgum leaves are shaped like stars and can be pressed and used for bookmarks. They’re protective and can be used like bayleaves in spells: inscribe something on the leaf and burn it to assist manifestation.
  • Gum Resin. The resin the tree exudes, called Stryax Resin, can be used much like benzoin. If you can find a tree with globs of hardened sap from past injuries it can be saved and used as purification incense or as an offering. The gum is known to have a sweet taste and is mildly anti inflammatory. Can be added to washes, colognes and mixtures to provide protection, especially from spirits, healing, or luck.

This Autumn, let something die.

A worry, a relationship, a project that has run its course. Let go of anxiety over the future. Let go of guilt.

Let go of other people’s dreams for you. Let go of the fear that happiness or success or love or joyousness somehow isn’t for you.

Let go of feeling unwanted. Go outside, can you feel how deeply your presence is craved here?

Let go of the small and burdensome things. Gifts never opened. Keys without a lock. Broken earrings, old love letters, the ephemera on your fridge.

As David Whyte writes, “Anything or anyone that does not bring you alive is too small for you.” This Autumn, let go of all the clothes you have outgrown.

Let go of comparison.

Let go of doubt.

Let go of the feeling that you are somehow not good enough.

Because every imperfect apple that lays soft in your hands, and every ray of low Autumn sunlight that warms you through woolens will tell you a different story, a much truer story. The story that you are more, much more, than enough. That you bless this world simply by being alive.

Raven and Coffin

Raven: Answered Here

Coffin: have you ever had a paranormal experience?

~ Sure. I’ve had some as small as seeing shadows at the corners of my vision up to seeing figures crossing the road on Halloween night. There’s always the times I hear unexplained music from rooms at the back of my house or smell things (perfume, flowers, food) that speak to me of spirits being nearby. ^_^

Black Cat: favorite urban legend?
~ I’m going to pick a local legend, I suppose it would really fall into local cultus more than urban legend status, but I’ve always loved it.
Supposedly in the area where I live there is a huge white-tailed buck that no one has ever been able to kill (or no one dares to try). It’s said that he has many points to his antlers (12? 13? 15? 20? It always seems to grow each time) and that he has an innate ability to escape hunters no matter how hard they try.
As a child the tales amused me, but as and adult and a devotee of Cernunnos I lean a little closer and smile while saying “Tell me more.”

Potion: favorite horror movie?
~ Currently the Conjuring movies have my heart.

Thanks for asking!
