I’ve got an ongoing list of things to do with a blank notebook or journal (because I can’t stop buying them), and I’ve pulled out the ones that I think might be of interest to magical, witchy, or pagan types. Hopefully, if you guys find yourselves stuck in front of that first blank page, there’ll be something here to inspire you!
Some of these examples have links or descriptions to further elaborate on what I pictured when I put them on the list, but don’t feel boxed in by any of these! Always feel free to think outside of the box.
🎃

Dream Journal
🎃
Psychic Journal
[1][2] Keep a record of your insights, premonitions and predictions. Be sure to make a note of when you’re right!
👻
Prayer/Chant Journal Even if you don’t write your own, having the ones you enjoy all in one place makes a great reference.
🎃
Meditation Journal [1][2] Journaling can be a form of meditation in and of itself, but you can also keep track of your meditation experiences or just log when you do it. If you’re doing guided meditations, you can list which ones you used as well.
Personal Almanac Make a personal, customized version of the magical almanacs or planners that get released every year.
🎃
Collect Truth Write down the things you agree with. why do you agree? Decide what’s true, or what feels true. If you can, include things that you don’t actually agree with, but you still think are true – that’s a fun thing to contemplate.
👻
Collect Lies I actually started keeping track of the false beliefs I’d either told myself or had been told, and perhaps a little more tricky – things I see others telling each other that I don’t agree with. Feel free to talk about why you have decided these are lies. And look back every now and then to see if you still agree with yourself.
🎃
Formulas Write down your favourite (or even experimental!) recipes for oils, incenses, inks, or whatever else you’ve got going in the cauldron so that you don’t forget how to make them.
Recipe Book Invaluable for a kitchen witch, especially if you’re keeping track of the magical effects of certain recipes!
👻
Book Exercise Journal Almost every book and every course suggests keeping a journal for it to record your progress, do the assignments, et cetera.
🎃
Spelled Book Turn each page into a spell! Rip it out or otherwise engage with the page to use it.
👻
Spirit Dossiers If you work with spirits, keep profiles of their personalities, likes, dislikes, interactions with them, et cetera.
🎃
Charger Book Imbue pages with a magical signature, leave objects on page to charge them.
👻
Book of Spreads I’ve got two spread books – one book has my own spreads, and one book has spreads from other people that I’ve liked. It’s beyond helpful to keep track of these somewhere in case you ever want to use them again, or share them with a friend!

(Witchy) Things To Do With A Blank Notebook Keep your own list! When you’re not sure what to do with your next blank notebook, see what stands out on the list and try it out! 🔮
Because, honestly, I do not journal enough. So many amazing ideas here.
aries: light candles. burn bridges and pumpkin scented candles with the same match. burn all the rotten residue. enjoy life without the hecklers.
taurus:
when you trick-or-treat, they will say you are too old. you have always been too old. you are old as the earth and it creaks in your bones
gemini: bitter black brew. it is the deadliest poison. drink, drink until you’re sick, until your eyes are sunken in your skull. add sugar and cream first.
cancer: you can’t keep yourself in the same closet as your skeletons. unless you are a skeleton. if so, sort the bones. find a better place to bury them.
leo: jump in a pile of leaves. take a moment to sink under the pile, in peace. sink, sink deeper and darker. let the ground take you. make friends there.
virgo: what’s better than an over-sized sweater? bury yourself in knit cable sweaters. keep knitting. build yourself a cave of comfort. don’t build a way out.
libra: double-cross the monster under your bed. buy bunk beds. tuck them in at night. everything’s a monster with bags under its eyes.
scorpio: bite your tongue. drink the blood. go see a doctor. tear the stitches out and redo them yourself. what, weren’t you going to do that anyway?
sagittarius: you can’t apologize for the beast the full moon made of you. but the one you became during the crescent moon did some fucked up shit bro.
capricorn: take down your hair, take off your glasses, shed your skin, go deep into the woods, lurk in the dark. it’s time there was a monster to fear.
aquarius: cold, cold hands. blue and veined. kiss mysterious girls and average men in doorways. what happens to them after is not of your concern.
pisces:
some flowers only bloom in the winter. wreath yourself in frost, breathe mist into the air. they never told you ghosts haunt themselves first.
I had a moment of nostalgia this morning for late Fall nights I spent with my highschool friends when we were 15. Staying up until nearly dawn and passing out just to say we got sleep, even if it was only an hour. “Do you know how to pump gas?” “Shit, no… you dont?! How do you own a truck and can’t pump gas?!”
Laughing until we were gasping for breath over fleeting jokes I’ll never remember again. The guys being in awe of AJ changing her shirt without ever being indecent. “I’m fucking talented!”
Running up and then back down their steep ass driveway until our eyes, noses, and lungs burned like hell from the cold air. (Omfg we were goth/rocket kids, we weren’t MADE for all that bullshit.) Swearing at least three of the six of us saw SOMETHING out in the woods and being convinced it was a nature spirit.
Eating chips and homemade salsa until the salt burned the corners of our mouths. “How did we eat three jars of it! She’s gonna be so mad!” *continues to eat more as he laments* Fucking around with the piano at midnight while he whined that we’d get into trouble.
I miss those times. I kind of miss those people. It hit me today that I don’t know them anymore. We were so close, spending every weekend together, and now I couldn’t tell you what they even like anymore. I’m making new memories with amazing people, but that nostalgic ache still hits sometimes when I’m not prepared.
I’m upset because I want to change the world but the world is too big and people are too mean
“Do not be daunted by the enormity of the world’s grief. Do justly, now. Love mercy, now. Walk humbly now. You are not obligated to complete the work, but neither are you free to abandon it.” – Rabbi Tarfon
First I shuffled ‘till I lost count, cut three times, shuffled twice, cut once more, and took the top card.
The card I drew for you is number Nineteen, the Lord of the Forest.
This represents the eternal masculine, action, and strength.
To best describe what this card means, I’m quoting directly from the book.
“If the Lord of the Forest appears in your reading, it is a sign that it is important to do something. You have been dreaming, now act on your dreams. In a relationship, take the lead. Tell your partner what is important to you. Actions speak, and to keep the masculine and feminine in balance, now is the time to act.”
Scientists hope to hugely reduce the cost of wind energy by removing the blades from wind farms, instead taking advantage of a special phenomenon to cause the turbines to violently shake.
Vortex, a startup from Spain, has developed the tall sticks known as Bladeless — white poles jutting out of the ground, that are built so that they can oscillate. They do so as a result of the way that the wind is whipped up around them, using a phenomenon that architects avoid happening to buildings and encouraging it so that the sticks shake.
They do so using vortices, which is where the company gets its name from. The bladeless turbines use special magnets to ensure that the turbines are optimised to shake the most they can, whatever speed the wind is travelling at.
As the sticks vibrate, that movement is converted into electricity by an alternator.
Wiggling Poles of the Wasteland Harvest Electricity For Power Hungry Humans
These also look like they would cause fewer problems for birds and bats.
This is really cool.
They leave off the important note that when the wind rises, each pole makes a sound like a hundred vuvuzelas roaring at once. In the post-apocalyptic world of the future, villagers will speak in hushed tones about the Roaring Plains, and caution adventurous travelers to stay well away.
I appreciate how they essentially invented very useful yet alien-looking screaming pillars. Science continues to make some suspiciously sci-fi shit.
At least you won’t have to go outside to know how windy it is… You’ll hear it.
They provide us energy
They provide us warmth
They love us
