Written by JRR Tolkien, “The Hobbit” was first published on September 21st, 1937, 80 years ago today.

Then something Tookish woke up inside him, and he wished to go and see the great mountains, and hear the pine-trees and the waterfalls, and explore the caves, and wear a sword instead of a walking-stick.

The path we walk can only be traveled alone in the end. You may walk alongside others and learn from their own path, but eventually theirs will lead them away from you.

Cherish the times you have with them, learn the lessons that are offered, and when the time comes let them go on their way. You are both growing and changing as you go. Even if the reasons for them leaving are not all peace and loving light you will begin to accept them eventually and move on.

There is a reason behind everything and, though you may not see that lesson until much later, you’ll be stronger for having known them and lost them as well.

People leave – it’s what they do. And at some point we all fuck up and make an ass of ourselves. It’s their right to leave and it’s our right to grieve that loss. Eventually, though, we have to pick up the broken pieces and rebuild. We just have to ensure that the version we create is better for what was endured and the lesson we were given was learned.

The Witching Hour

breelandwalker:

It’s the final Sunday of the month. The moon is bright, the autumn chill is setting in, and once more, it’s time for the gothic denizens of the Tidewater area to leave their catacombs and congregate for The Witching Hour.

Feast upon delectable small-plate fare, enjoy specialty cocktails, and dance the night away while DJ Karla spins a ghoulish mix of post punk, darkwave, death rock, and witch house into the wee small hours of the morning.

Rumor has it that a certain local witch might even be making an informal appearance to celebrate the fall holidays in style….

The party runs from 10pm to 2am, 18 to enter, 21+ to drink. ID is required at the bar. No cover charge. Appropriate attire is encouraged.

Come out, come out, wherever you are…

If ONLY I lived in the Williamsburg area of VA! 😭

The Witching Hour

🍂

Something is shifting just beneath the surface and I can feel the weight of the changes it brings with it. I cannot tell whether the tidings it brings are joyful or menacing, but I sense them just the same.

– – – – – –

The air is still heavy with humidity and the great of summer, though autumn lurks only days away. The storms roll through with anger and fury on their tongues and I watch as they pass on by leaving my steps untouched and dry.

What is it about autumn that makes me feel like I actually exist

SOMEONE TELL ME WHY I ONLY FEEL LIKE A REAL PERSON IN THE FALL

I understandthis so much. Fall feels like home tbh

Welcome to the dark part of the year. The veil is thin and those of us with a connection to the darkness and the other side of the veil feel it all the more profoundly.

Autumn is as close to home as I get.
