I have gone for long periods of time, weeks and months even, without doing a damn thing for my practice other than the dailies and a bit of research. (My home is “wired,” if you will, to set the wards with the turn of a key, and for growth magic in the garden. Those are the dailies.)

Whether because of depression or illness or just life getting too filled up with mundane concerns, my craft has often had to take a backseat. And yes, I’ve struggled with feelings of inadequacy and guilt when I finally got back around to it. Was I worthy to write a spell? To cast a charm? To light up my altar?

The answer is a resounding YES. YES YOU ARE.

Witchcraft is just like any other craft you might maintain an interest in, or any spiritual path you might follow. Sometimes you’re tired. Sometimes you’re busy. Sometimes you forget. Sometimes you get discouraged. But the good news is, it’s always there waiting for you when you get back.

You are every bit as much of a witch when you have to take breaks as you are when you have the time and energy to cast spells on a regular basis. There’s no law for how often you have to do witchy things in order to be legitimate. You are a witch. Therefore, you are legitimate.

So you get right back into that saddle and cast that self-love spell. There is magic in you always, and no matter how tired or distracted you are, or how many breaks you need to take, it will not leave you.

Turn your face to the wind, witchling. I think you’ll find that it still sings for you.
