Fenrir ISN’T the ‘Norse Satan’

During my time as a pagan, I’ve ever felt connected to two gods: Loki and Fenrir. But I didn’t dare start worshipping Fenrir until recently.

Why is that, you may wonder.

Fenrir, one of Loki’s children is a monster. A giant wolf, to be exact. Due to his wild growth, the gods decided to trick him into chaining him up. They told him they would test his strength, and he agreed.

He broke out of every chain, so they asked dwarves to make them a chain.

Because the new chain seemed so weak, Fenrir suspected it was a trap. So he made Tyr put his hand into Fenrir’s mouth.

And when Fenrir couldn’t break free, he bit Tyr’s hand off.

Now, why do people dislike Fenrir?

Because of Ragnarok, of course! He is destined to kill Odin.

But tell me truthfully: if Odin chained you up for eternity, wouldn’t you want to bite his head off? It seems like a valid reason.

Yet people advise against worshipping Fenrir. He is ‘pure evil’.

Even some of my fellow Lokeans agreed he’s bad.

And yet they worship Loki, who killed Balder, a completely innocent god. Not saying anything against Loki, I’m a Lokean too, just criticising there hypocrisy.

Anyhow, Fenrir sits lonely and chained up. And he’s called pure evil. What if he wasn’t treated so roughly?

He was a good pupper, before they took away his freedom. To me, he represents just that.

And what random people on the internet think won’t stop me from believing.

If you feel connected to Fenrir, don’t be afraid. He’s pretty nice.

If you don’t mind me adding my feelings;

In my opinion, Fenrir resonates in those who have been wrongly punished, judged or cast aside for things they could not help. People who have been wronged because of their nature and society’s unwillingness to show compassion.

Behavioural issues, racial/socioeconomic profiling, pushing expectations on children, pushing away those who need kindness the most. I heard his howls in the shouts of “problem” children I worked with, who are disregarded at such a young age when what they need is patience and acceptance. I see an echo of his frustration in people incarcerated for crimes that others with privilege get away with daily. I feel his loneliness in abused children, his rage in those aged out of the foster system.

If Fenrir is a monster, then he is a monster of the Gods’ making. Rather than take this creature and teach him honour, compassion and love, they abused his trust and taught him how to hate.

To me, Fenrir personifies personal justice. That rare time beyond forgiveness and understanding, where only your fangs will suffice. He is raw, vengeful and lonely. And I feel it fit to honour him by being kind to those who society has abused.

The middle of recovery is awful. It does not feel good. There are moments where it will be clear why you are doing this, ones that will take your breath away. But a majority of the time you will question everything, your thoughts will be racing so much that you will feel like you can’t breathe. You will spend countless days wondering why things can’t be quiet, wondering why you are bothering to work so hard when not fighting would be effortless. Recovery does not feel good. If you are looking around you and are ashamed because you are not in love with this process, please, listen to me. Take a deep breath- It’s okay. It’s okay to hate it. It’s okay to say it sucks. It’s okay to want to give up, to struggle immensely, to be angry, to be uncomfortable (you should be!). and it’s okay to not understand why your smile still feels empty when your stomach is full again.
Recovery does not feel good.
For goodness sake, I hate it!!! Do not mistake my positivity for perfection. I am not walking through this fire gracefully. I burn and fall and become ashes. And every morning I rise and face the flames over and over again.

So please, do not beat yourself up if you are feeling like a failure for not being happy and perfect. Healing is not linear. And you are still brave.

This was true for me too, but recovery was still the best thing I ever did. Hang in there, it’s worth it ❤

Good evening everyone!

I’m elated to announce a spring giveaway on this blog! This is a thank you to all my followers and those who have supported my work over the past few years. I’ve grown a lot, and learned a lot, via this site and those I’ve met here. With luck, I’ll be blogging for many years to come.

Things food snobs are wrong about

bogleech:

  • “Organic” isn’t better for you or for the environment. It actually means nothing of any significance at best and is sometimes even the more wasteful, more hazardous option.
  • A shitload of “natural” food including a lot of imported produce is grown and harvested through slave labor in inhumane conditions.
  • Pizza, fried chicken, french fries, fast food, candy bars and chips ARE nutritious. They are loaded with good things. Just because they have an abundance of excess fats and might not be healthy as a staple doesn’t mean they are “nutritionless” or that their calories are “empty.” Those are hokey buzzwords pushed by the people in charge of how much you pay for the alternatives.
  • Eating healthier costs more. Much more. Looking down on people for their reliance on cheaper food is extremely classist and expecting everyone to be able to live off fresh veggies and cage-free meats is insultingly unrealistic in the modern world.
  • “Processed” literally only means the food went through some kind of automated process. This can be literally the exact same thing a human being would have done to the food for it to be labeled “unprocessed.” Being processed does not make something less healthy.
  • Chemicals with long, scary names are part of nature. An apple is full of compounds you probably can’t pronounce. A shorter ingredients label only means they didn’t bother listing all 300 things the product is actually made of and HAS to be made of.
  • Preservatives, artificial flavors and other additives are not the devil. Most are harmless and in general they are part of the reason you haven’t already starved to death or died of a food borne illness.
  • MSG is not bad for you at all.
  • The fact that something might be made of “scrap” meats like pig snouts or chicken necks only means one thing: that we didn’t waste perfectly normal, edible meat.
  • I DON’T KNOW HOW I FORGOT THIS IN MY FIRST VERSION OF THIS POST BUT GMO’S ARE NOT DANGEROUS TO EAT. GMO’S ARE SAVING LIVES. YOU’VE ALREADY EATEN GMO’S BEFORE YOU EVEN KNEW THE TERM. IT’S FINE. EAT THEM.
