Way too many parents need to learn the difference between “a child being disrespectful” and “a human person expressing an opinion that differs from theirs”
my mom had a nice technique for this. when i’d give her sass, she’d say, “i don’t speak rude, what’s that in polite-person-ese?”
basically, she’d encourage me to rephrase my opinion without the attitude. so “UGH, you NEVER let me do ANYTHING!” would (often after quite a bit of bitching and grumbling) turn into “it feels like every time i have a fun idea, you say no, and i just end up sitting around the house.”
and at that point we could troubleshoot like civilized people. she could explain that she didn’t want me to go to jimmy’s sleepover because jimmy’s dad creeps her out, and i could suggest maybe i could have andy over instead, and she could say sure, why not call peter and stacy and brianna and have your own party, i’ll pop some popcorn and rent a movie, and i could add what if we put up tents in the back yard and have a bonfire and roast marshmallows, and she could laugh and say don’t push it.
I really like this technique because it addresses the OPs comment but recognizes that the two can coexist. The problem is often the child is expressing their opinion in a rude or disrespectful way. And as humans we automatically become adverse to opinions we feel are aggressive toward us.

Hi. I’m desperate for a second opinion on what the runes on this tablet mean. I’m trying to get a second opinion since I don’t work with runes much.
Backstory: this tablet was found in a circle of rocks with burnt candles and an empty open box that was marked with a message saying Do Not Open The Box.
This was at a haunted farm that was known for slavery and human trafficking, the most well known cases being the high amount of albinos that were held on this farm.
My friends and I were exploring when we discovered this. It should also be noted the entire farm is wrought with bad energy and the ritual site was the worst of it. I warned them not to mess with the ritual pieces but they went ahead regardless and found this wooden tablet (far newer than the rest of the pieces. ie: wasn’t water damaged/covered with dirt and leaves) sitting by the open box.
One girl from our group took the tablet home and now her and anyone who touched the tablet are having strange things happen to them. (I didn’t touch it.) I’m attempting to reverse these bad effects with a cleansing spell but it would be helpful to know exactly what I’m trying to undo. (Again, I’m in desperate need of a second opinion. I’m honestly thinking that they’re not words, but spells.
Simplified, what I see here is, essentially, a curse, calling down ill health, bad luck, mayhem, and financial loss on someone.
From a witch who mainly works with runes, here’s the translation; Haigalz, the rune of hail and disruption, with sowilo (in this very negative context, sudden and abrupt change, sheer power) Eihwaz (death mysteries, poison, difficulty) Nied (difficulty, stasis, desperate need), Algiz reversed (to break any protections on the target, to bring bad luck) Isa (to bring stasis, melancholy, difficulty)
Below that, Fehu three times, paired with Thurisaz, Ansuz, and Raidho.
Fehu for wealth, or material possessions. Given this curse seems to be to harm a thief, Fehu for the item stolen, and Thurisaz for power and retribution. Then Ansuz to communicate it and/or invoke Odin’s aid, and Raidho to send the spell. Fehu, I think, is repeated here thrice as three is a powerful number.
Below that, Thurisaz twice more, upright and reversed, to pull power and to invoke the most destructive aspects of the rune (and it is a powerhouse of a rune) they’re with Uruz reversed, for ill health and to bring sickness.
Then Thurisaz three more times (three again), and Kenaz reversed; to destroy any creativity, to foil any efforts to break free of stagnancy, to drain energy and will.
This is a curse, and a helluva potent one.
Take the tablet, and put it back. Cleanse the fuck out of anything and everything it touched, and tell your friends not to pick up curse components in the woods any more. Whap them with a newspaper if needed to get the point across.
